“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Fines
This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent examples include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
