Officers stated they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.

A senior political figure said the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
