One two-month cruise around the Land Down Under was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the personnel realised the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt found her remains the next day.

Authorities are investigating the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator announced that travelers and staff on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an latest communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The liner originally sailed from the coastal city on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's passing. The remote island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on board - who generally pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkeling.

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left the island after an organised tour without my parent".

In her statement, she described her parent as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a participant of a hiking group.

"Based on limited facts we have been provided, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have performed that might have preserved Mum's being".

"According to reports from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum took sick on the hill climb," she stated.

"They requested her to return, unescorted. Then the vessel departed, apparently without conducting a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or soon after, mum succumbed, alone."

Organization Response

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive verified that the operator was "collaborating extensively with investigators to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.

The liner serves up to a hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty personnel, according to company information. It was specifically designed to enter distant areas of the nation's shoreline and is fitted with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry passengers on shore trips.
